ASSESSMENT AT ARROWSMITH SCHOOL

We believe that one of the strengths of the Arrowsmith Program is the assessment that each student receives prior to admission and at the end of each school year.

The purpose of the assessment prior to admission is to identify the strengths and weaknesses in the student's learning areas in order to create a learning profile and as a basis for designing an individualized program of cognitive exercises to meet the learning needs of each student.

The year-end assessment allows us to ascertain the progress that each student has made during the year and to modify the student's program of cognitive exercises for the following year.

The pre-admissions assessment at Arrowsmith School is conducted by Janice Jordan, who is a graduate of the University of Toronto Institute of Child Studies and a trained psychometrist.

Assessment for Students not Enroling in Arrowsmith School

Arrowsmith School Toronto also offers a cognitive assessment which identifies individuals' strengths and weaknesses to adults or children who live in an area that does not offer an Arrowmsith Program. This assessment is a useful tool that provides an in depth understanding of how that individual learns. It is important to note that the Arrowsmith Program has not been designed as a home program for distance education. This program is most effectively delivered within a school environment and as such, if individuals live in an area that does not offer an Arrowsmith Program they will not be able to access the cognitive programs upon completion of the assessment.

What is involved in the assessment process?

The full assessment process ordinarily takes two to four days to complete. The assessment starts at 9:00 a.m. and continues to 3:15 p.m. each day.

Each student is assessed using tests developed at Arrowsmith School as well as standardized tests of cognitive ability and academic skills.

These include achievement tests, assessing word recognition, spelling, reading comprehension, writing, arithmetic, tests of cognitive ability, and tests assessing the levels of strength and weakness of each of the areas of learning dysfunction that are described in the Descriptions of Learning Dysfunctions.

The tests are used to identify the student's specific learning profile and will also be used as the basis for designing his or her individual program of cognitive exercises when the student enrolls at Arrowsmith School.

Payment, deposit and cancellation policy

The assessment fee is $2,000. We will arrange a meeting four to six weeks after the assessment has taken place to review the results and provide a written learning profile for the student.

We request that you provide us with a deposit in the amount of $500 at the time of scheduling the appointment for testing and the balance of $1,500 on the first day of testing.

Please let us know as soon as possible if you find it necessary to reschedule the appointment. While we will try to accommodate such requests, we reserve the right to retain the deposit if we do not receive adequate notice of the cancellation or if we are unable to fill the appointment that has been cancelled.
